confirmation or dissapointment?
4Battlefield 3: Probably one of the most anticipated games of 2011. Since the first trailers were released a new hype was created, mainly because of the amazing graphics displayed by EA’s new engine: frostbite 2. The question now is can it match the expectations? Graphics: 10/10 This is probably one of the most beautiful shooters I’ve ever played; every detail is brought to you in stunning HD graphics that are so realistic you sometimes wonder if you aren’t looking at the new Steven Spielberg movie. When compared to that other blockbuster, Modern Warfare 3, it wins this round easily. Whereas MW3 still runs on the same engine used for their previous games, battlefield 3 runs on the brand-new frostbite 2 engine which brings along all the new and very best when it comes to graphics. The difference is even bigger when played on pc! Audio: 9/10 Dice, the developer of battlefield 3, has a renowned reputation when it comes to audio, a lot of their expertise in this area has been used in other blockbuster games and this shows, every gun sounds like it sounds in real life, but it goes further than that, when you crawl through the branches of a fallen tree you will hear the leaves rustle, when you crawl over the asphalt, you can hear your clothes scraping over it, when you aim with a sniper you can hear your breath… there are few studios that can bring sounds in-game as they do. Interface: 7/10 For the last few years Activision and infinity ward had us spoiled with their transparent menu’s that were easy to navigate and where a new weapons set-up was made in no time. When browsing through the menu of battlefield 3 you don’t get that same flow going on, everything is a tad more stiff and just a bit harder to do, don’t get me wrong, it is not an annoyance to use, it just can’t touch the call of duty interface style. What did annoy me though was that in the multiplayer you had two sides you randomly play on, but only the American side weapons’ load out could be managed when not playing, which was a pain because then you lose game time editing something fast, you normally want to take your time for Gameplay: 9,1/10 For most gamers, myself included, this is the most important aspect of a game. Why? Because this will determine if you will keep playing it or not. And to be thorough we have to split this into two sections: - Single player: the single player is everything you expect from a modern first person shooter, it is visually stunning and there’s non-stop Hollywood action all through the nine hour campaign. Then what makes it different from other shooters? For the first time you almost feel the physical aspects of your weapons, the recoil the way you run with different weapons, the realistic way the enemy goes down, but maybe most important the completely destructible environment, this keeps the gameplay fresh and always forces you to look for new strategic places to find cover, whereas in other games you can’t hit that guy standing behind that pole you now can blow away the pole with an rpg and the guy with it and thanks to the new engine it is all fluent and realistic! The story itself isn’t ground breaking, though it entertains the entire time - The multiplayer: the multiplayer is why most people buy games from the battlefield franchise. And over time it has built up a huge fan-base. Why? Because this is one of those rare games that naturally stimulates people to play together and rewards them for doing so. Even when you’re new to the genre or not that good a shooter, you still can be of much value to your team. This can be as a doc: then your duty is to heal your teammates or revive them when they are shot down, as an engineer you can repair vehicles, which are often the key to victory, as a supplier your duty is to supply ammo and as a recon you can put up spawn beacons or scout ahead with mobile robots. I have to warn you though, when you are a fan of call of duty this is not your kind of game, whereas in COD you mainly play alone and have more of a hop and pop gameplay, in battlefield this will be punished as you will die more often than not. It is harder to kill someone and easier to get killed when you don’t play organised. This kind of gameplay had made the series great but requires team spirit! Lasting appeal: 9,5/10 Due to the enormous amounts of stuff you unlock while playing you will be settled for months before you will put this one aside And when you buy the limited edition, the first expansion pack will be free with extra weapons, vehicles and maps to play on Overall conclusion: It can only be said that the game fully answered to the expectations formed of it, this is for me the best shooter of 2011 thanks to its refreshing gameplay and visually astonishing graphics

Strenght of the multiplayer
5Battlefield 3 is a good first person shooter. It has a decent singleplayer which introduce you with many weapons and places. However it is a bit straight forward and you will most likely finish the singleplayer in 4 or 5 fours. The strenght of this game is the multiplayer. It gives a realistic view of 'war'. You cannot win a game on your own. You are a part of a team and whether you spot or shoot people from a distance or drop ammo to your teammates. Your contribution to the team has priority. Kills only will not get you a lot of points but helping your team will. For example by dropping ammo or healthpacks or reviving teammates. A new co-op function is also in the game and provide you and your friend with some levels. The graphics and environment is astonishing and you can blow (almost) every building or wall in the game. There are some little bugs in the game but the overall experience is good. A must have if you like to play online and
