Worth the Battle

Yes it's just another first person shooter but this one has a story line that will capture you from the start and make all that running and gunning worthwhile. There are many nice easy achievements/trophies to gather as soon as you start playing and as you progress through the game it calls upon your shooting skills to gather even more. The game also asks you to make moral choices, do you shoot or not? Well worth a buy.

The setting, a disaster stricken Dubai was a bit different and initially the game appears to be a standard over the shoulder third person shooter in the vein of Gears or War or the Army of Two series. Basically in terms of mechanics the game engine is similiar but it's the story thats the main draw here. Without giving anything away for any potential purchasers, it's not long before you find out everything is not as it first seems. I'd say the story writers have taken a slight nod from Apocalypse Now here with some of the mind tricks. Graphics are nice, though not spectacular but the environment effects are well done like the sudden sandstorms you run into. The weapons selection is limited, but they do each have their own characteristics. Would I recommend this? Yes!

Action Shooter for lovers of good plots

Spec ops: the line, shows an interesting mixture of action, drama and psychological elements which thrills the player until the final shoot down in a destroyed Dubai. Plenty of achievements that will keep the player busy for many hours and unlockable difficulties increase the challenge and the adrenalin. Over all it kept me busy for a week but it will be shorter if you are an hardcore player. If you liked Gears of War, The Line, will surprise you.

Heart of Darkness indeed

The single player is fantastic. The characters are likeable and you fell for them as things descend further into madness. Solid shooting mechanics and interesting environments. The multi-player is a throw away and feels unpolished and broken. There are some glimmers of fun but they are just bogged down by frustrating gun play.

One of the things I was most looking forward to in this game was it's story line, which I'd heard was unusually good for this type of game. The ability to make difficult discussions is a good one but I felt that it didn't really alter the story, just offering a different cut-scene and reason to play through the game a second time. The game-play is solid but I did encounter a few difficult moments where I would re-load the same checkpoint to get past it. It's definitely worth a play and the price!

Based on demo play

2

As you can see by the title, I have only played the demo. I can't say if it has improved from this but one would assume it would have had to. It was just really poor in honesty. If you want an FPS then look beyond this to more popular titles. I couldn't even finish the demo I thought it was so poor. I am a BF3 boy though so am used to a very high standard of graphics and game play.

Spec Ops: The Line

From start to finish, Spec Ops: The Line is quality and the story hooks you in. There's allot of inspiration taken from the Apocalypse Now movie which is well worth watching before playing this game. Spec Ops really has you in it's grasp. Really enjoyed this title, infact it's the best story campaign I've played in a long time. The multiplayer is great fun also and is more bare bones nothing fancy but fun to play and has dynamic sand storms ect during gameplay. I now need to sink my teeth into that now since the campaign is completed. Oh really enjoyed collecting audio tapes throughout campaign really helps to support the atmosphere and story... Buy it now!
