I'm enjoying Tomb Raider so far but it's nothing special.

Great game!

Tomb Raider is a great game with balanced mechanics and really careful visuals. Every scenario is beautifully detailed and presents dramatic and impressive set piece moments with an interesting level structure that manages to make the linear experience feel less oppressive than the norm. Shooting has the familiar trappings of a 3rd person game, but it adds some cinematographic twists here and there, ultimately being in equal parts rewarding and desperate.

Tomb Raider is very different than the last Tomb Taider games. The graphics are a lot better and the gameplay doesn't repeat itself like the other ones. The story line is very good. I would recommend this game to anyone who likes shooting with guns, bow and arrows, and puzzles which aren't too difficult.

I have played Tomb Raider since I was young and the first one made its debut, but game after game until the fourth one I lost interest in always repeating annoying puzzles and far-fetched storyline. After that, there was a long time that I didn't play any games at all, but this one brought me back to the franchise and back to gaming. Story: The story is great and not too far-fetched, although I - have played the first games and being a sci-fi / fantasy lover - think Lara's a bit too "slow" to not instantly come to obvious conclusions the player made long before her. I like the other characters from the Endurance with their quirks and intertwining story lines (supported by the diaries) very much. Everyone has his/her own story and, although I must admit many of them are cliches, all in all it fits together nicely. Sadly there are a few questions without an answer after playing the game but at least the player can guess what's going on. Gameplay: Normally I am not a fan of Shooter type games and usually I am too slow (reaction-wise) for them, but this one I found very enjoyable because the combat difficulty can be adjusted and you have enough time to aim, duck or run away even in melee fights. I especially liked the stealth killing features and made use of them wherever I could. There certainly is a lot of gore, blood and violence in combat and some levels but I think it's not too much and the appropriate amount. This game is very different from the previous ones because Lara - in spite of taking incredible amounts of damage - is finally more like a human being and not like a robot. The developers put much thought in showing her weaknesses and pain, put a focus on improvisation (e.g. the weapons, upgrades, many of the skills) and in doing this came much closer to creating a survivor like type gameplay and character. Content: I liked the physics-based puzzles very much although I must admit, after a certain progress in the game, you get a sense of how to get through and do many things automatically. I guess you can't make a game where everything is always new to the player but there certainly are a lot of repetitive actions. A few examples are torching everything that looks flammable, cracking the supply-crates open over and over, the mini games, pressing buttons in quick-action-cut scenes and so on. What I really liked when progressing further in the game is adding new items and possibilities one at a time. Combied with the "fast travel" feature there is much salvage to collect and there are many challenges to beat to keep the player occupied even after beating the game. There are many other activities the player can pursue to gain XP or scrap like hunting, exploring and - of course - raiding tombs. Personally I think there were too little and too small tombs but after all it's supposed to be the first stepping stone in her "career", so I'm ok with that. Conclusion: I really liked the Tomb Raider reboot and hope to see a sequel with the new style. Square Enix did a great job on this one, blew the dust off the franchise and made a great game. I definitely recommend this for gamers casual and upward. I had high hopes for this one and I'm not disappointed!

Tomb Raider is worth every single penny! I highly recommend it for fans of the series and the genre. Lara is more human and more stunning than ever before, as you see her grow from a reluctant and seemingly helpless woman into the cunning relic hunter that we know.

I had been disappointed with the previous iterations of Tomb Raider. Apart from a start with a little too many automated sequences I have really enjoyed this entry into the tomb raider universe. Tight controls, excellent visuals and a constant feeling of there being more to explore make this a really enjoyable game to work through. Levels are well constructed and although rather different to the normal tomb raiding platform the new styling may just have saved the series.
