Another excellent Zavvi Exclusive. This cover is very kool and kinda kreepy, like the film... The best part is that they go all the way with making steel art what it should be: we already know what the movie is, so we definitely don't need a reprint of some amaray cover with words all over it... All steels should follow this method.Report this review
so having seen pan's Labyrinth a few years ago and thoroughly enjoying it I was delighted to see a steel-book edition being released. The film is a masterpiece of visuals and my favorite Guillermo Del Toro film. it is both haunting and (a little) terrifying, beautifully shot and acted. it tells of a little girl thrust into a nightmarish fantasy world, whilst being surrounded by the horrors of war. I wont bother to summarize the plot any further as that information is already available so I will simply answer the question, "is it a nice steel-book?" the answer is yes. The front artwork is beautiful with a matte/shiny finish in places giving it an almost hologram effect in the light, the back shows my favorite "creature" from the film, from one of the more disturbing scenes. The inside is also nice showing the fawn and the disc has a nice picture on it as well. my only reason for giving the film 4 stars is there is no embossing on the front, which is a bit of a shame but a minor point. The Blu-ray transfer is good, really showing off the visuals. the only thing I feel that may put people off is that this is a foreign language film, please don't let that prevent you from missing this overlooked gem of a film as it really is worth watching and owning. It is among my favorite non-English films along side Run Lola Run, Let the right one in & Amelie. All in all I highly recommend this film to anyone who likes fantasy/horror movies and are fans of the likes of the film Labyrinth , Return to Oz & the dark Crystal. Give it a go and enjoy.Report this review
