What Is Hammer Horror?

Hammer Films is a London-based British film production company. Created in 1934, its long track record of releases provides Hammer Horror with a sprawling history of scaring legions of viewers throughout the decades.

Renowned throughout the film industry for its classic roster of gothic horror pictures, particularly between 1950-1970, Hammer Horror presented some of literature’s greatest supernatural beings in live-action for the first time.

With this long legacy, it’s no surprise that Hammer Horror has fans from all corners of the world, eager for more spooktacular content from the horror genre’s greatest advocate.

Delving into the modern era, Hammer Horror has since developed such critically acclaimed titles as Let Me In (2010), The Resident (2011), The Woman in Black (2012), and The Quiet Ones (2014), compounding its reputation as the greatest producer of horror content to this very day.

Hammer Horror Celebrities

Hammer Horror boasts some of the most recognisable classic figures in all of horror fiction, presenting such iconic films as The Curse of Frankenstein, Dracula, The Mummy, and many other famed cinematic releases. It is to no one’s surprise, then, that Hammer Horror is such prevalent part of pop culture.

The Curse of Frankenstein, released in 1957, loosely adapted the novel 'Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus' by Mary Shelly, providing the first recorded transition of Hammer Horror into the realm of colour filmography.

Following on from the success of The Curse of Frankenstein, Hammer Horror capitalised on its positive reception to release numerous sequels and, of course, the cinematic adaptations of Dracula and The Mummy.

With such a legendary roster of characters, Hammer Horror is one of the all-time great production studios operating within the film industry.
