Weapon X

Debuting in The Incredible Hulk #180 (1974), Wolverine was created by Roy Thomas, Len Wein, and John Romita Sr. A mutant with extraordinary healing powers and adamantium-coated claws, James Howlett (also known as Logan) is a frequent member of the Marvel Comics superhero team referred to as the X-Men. He is depicted as a no-nonsense hero, killing and maiming villains on a frequent basis.

Throughout the character’s history, he has appeared in various adaptations, including animated series and live-action films. Actor Hugh Jackman is often associated with the role, having portrayed the mutant in multiple adaptations: X-Men (2000), X2 (2003), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), The Wolverine (2013), X-Men: Days Of Future Past (2014), and Logan (2017). For his commitment, he was awarded the Guinness World Record for ‘longest career as a live-action Marvel superhero’.

The films follow the character’s journey to uncover the mysteries behind his forgotten past while attempting to stay one step ahead of William Stryker, the man who weaponised Logan by bonding his skeleton with adamantium. His path crosses with the X-Men, a group of mutants dedicated to using their powers for good, and he is convinced to join by Professor X. Working on the side of good, he develops a strong bond with his team — particularly Jean Grey (the Phoenix) — and faces off against threats such as Magneto.
