I just can't stop playing !

Dark Souls is easily one of the best games I have ever played. I have put 100+ into it and despite all the confusion and frustration, the feeling of achievement is nothing like any other game. Combat is great, the online system is great, I don't think there's much I can say bad about this game! If you're willing to get through the ridiculous difficulty curve then you're in for one of the greatest adventures for the past decade.

Excellent (Requires Patience)

5

Quite simply put, Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition is a brilliant game. Challenging? Yes. Irritating? At times, (there's nothing like spending twenty minutes getting to a boss, being hit twice, dying and ending up back at the start with everyone you've just killed standing in your way again), yet I still can't put it away. Without this element, you wouldn't get half as much satisfaction when you finally come through the fight victorious. I would definitely recommend it!

An excellent game. High standard of game play, excellent graphics. Not for the new gamer though.

Addictive experience

5

Very few games can bond my thoughts hours after I have turned off the console. Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition definitely can do. A few weeks ago, I jumped into this adventure. It was a pretty good decision. I found this game really fair. At first sight, Dark Souls allow us to do anything that the enemies can. We definitely need some time to learn the combat system, however every little win over the opposite side will give us the joy of victory. Besides, after the second boss, we will be able to join to others and clear out the area together. We also will be able to invite others to help us, although this way we will be exposed to the other human invaders. The real difficulty will end here in my opinion. This is a great game and not just for hardcore gamers. You need to approach it with respect but it will award you with unforgettable gaming experiences.

A Gamer's Game

5

Dark Souls might overwhelm you at first, but the more time you spend in the world of Lordran, the more you get the hang of it and it starts to feel like a game right out of the early 90s, where the rewarding feeling you got after you passed a certain stage just couldn't be emulated by other games nowadays. Seldom has there been a game in recent times where you felt the challenge/reward system as intense as you do here. The only downside is the huge amount of precious life-hours you're going to sink into this masterpiece.

Having originally played this when it first came out, I hated it. I hated everything about it and thought of it as being amongst the worst games I'd ever played. Coming back to it now with a fresh outlook I was prepared to give it more time, and it was worth doing, but it's not a complete turn around, the game still has many problems. The most serious issue is that the controls are poorly mapped to the pad, having to use multiple buttons for simple moves such as a kick is too clunky. Other serious problems include poor description of game elements. Yes, part of the experience is not knowing what things do and finding out, but a lot of the detail that is withheld is done so pointlessly, as telling the player would only serve to help them know how to play the game, and not telling them only serves to make life more difficult. The information being withheld is not deep and game changing information, but basic information about the game systems and mechanics. Withholding that information is a terrible idea. I also find the game slow and clunky, very ugly, and still quite dull. On the plus side, the combat is very exact, you have to learn what you are doing with each enemy to be successful, which is a rare treat really, as most games of this ilk just let you mash buttons to victory. Not here, you have to understand how to battle each enemy and plan your strategy accordingly. The fact is, this game won't be for everyone, it requires a bucketful of patience. If you have that, then this is worth a punt, if not, all the games faults will drive you insane and you will hate it.

Amazing

Amazing game. Great gameplay, great atmosphere. I simply love this game. I am disappointed that this Prepare to Die edition doesn't include all of the extras of the PC version, but still, it is an amazing game. Two thumbs up.

trial and error

One of the hardest games I have ever played in my 18 year long gamer career and of course one of the best, tactical RPGs you can play on this console generation. It has much more to offer then hard gameplay because it looks very wonderful and has many different quests, with more then 100 of hours from great gameplay and includes much more weapons and armour.

Favourite game ever!

I have had this game since Christmas and I'd have to say it is the best game I have ever played. The depth of the story line, the unrelenting world, huge boss fights and realistic combat make this game one to not forget. There are no quests and no one telling you what to do, it is literally a fend for yourself game. The game world is massive and full of riddles, traps and amazing scenery. Dark Souls has a massive replay ability with the basic RPG feel to it, you can customise your character through the body customization at the start and then there are stat points and armour and weapons. This game will never get old, it just leaves me searching for a game similar to this, because it is really that good in my eyes. Dark Souls will test you with it's unforgiving world!
