Loving it!

Let's get one thing very clear, this console with Nintendo Land is a LOT of fun. I find every feature about this console to be robust and entertaining. However, it is a family console, just as every Nintendo console has been since the 80's. It is cute, it is charming and you will love it. However it is definitely not a console for technology buffs, tech heads and gamers who like their consoles gritty and grey. If you don't like smiling, then don't buy one. Everybody else can come and join the party!

Perfection

Between the choices of the Wii U available, i can honestly say I chose wisely. The console itself is a dream to play, doing anything you want it to. The packaged game, Nintendoland, is just fantastic, it uses and introduces you to everything the Wii U can do in a familiar colourful environment. There is so much to choose it is impossible not to find something you like. For me the Zelda attraction is the best thing on the Wii U, especially with a friend!

Magicial Machine

Nintendo have done it again, bringing a console out that is something new and different. Having a smaller screen in your grasp is great for when everyone else wants to watch TV and you want to continue gaming. With a simple swap you can move what you're playing onto the hand-held so you need never miss a moment of playing Mario! There's a great community on the Miiverse where, if you're stuck in a game, you just post what you need and other players can help you immediately. With the 32GB edition you have plenty of space for saves. Add to this that there are more 'adult' games being released for this system and it's a fantastic console to have in your home.

Great Purchase!

5

I decided to pre order the wii u for the exclusive Nintendo developed games, as they are some of the best around. It arrived on launch day with a copy of Nintendo Land, which I have been enjoying with my family. As many of you will know, the Wii U comes with an innovative touch screen tablet style game-pad (see pics). The Wii U also backwards compatible with Wii controllers and even Wii games. You can use the Wii controllers with certain Wii U games while another player uses the 'private' Wii U tablet game-pad (which also has traditional buttons and thumbsticks), allowing for a new style of multiplayer gaming known as 'asymmetric multiplayer' and it works great! The graphics are in HD and on a par with ps3 and xbox 360. A HUGE upgrade over the Wii. I would suggest you get the premium (black) model as it has more flash memory, so more room for downloading games from the online nintendo store. But be warned, there is VERY little space for them. If you really want to download games, you will need to buy a separate external hard disk drive (look this up online for further info). If you have friends or family willing to play it with you, then I would highly recommend the Wii U. If not, I suggest you wait a few more months for more single player focused games to be released.

Oh my yes.

I don't know if I've ever been as happy with a new console in my 15 years as a gamer. Nintendoland is just brimming with ideas and the Nintendo Wii U itself is a lovely, ergonomic piece of kit. Once again Nintendo have changed the game by out thinking their opponents. I recommend you purchase this, get four friends round and lose hours to Mario Chase.

Wii U is Brilliant

5

After playing Wii U for the first time, I knew this was the console that I wanted to stick with in future. The controller is surprisingly light (even lighter than Xbox or PS3 controllers) considering that it packs motion sensors, rumble functionality, TV remote functionality and a touch screen that is large and clear as day which allows you to play games entirely off the controller. It's my favourite feature, as the Wii U does what all consoles are failing to do, try to make the most out of the TV. It comes with a punch, too. The graphical capabilities are wonderful, and no I don't care about what Microsoft or Sony will make that's more powerful later, they're gonna do too much too soon and fail. The launch library is far better than the Wii's, bar the fact we are missing a Zelda title. But I'm sure ZombiU, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Assassin's Creed 3 will see you over for a long while until the likes of Pikmin are released next year. Overall, don't think it's perfect, as there's the issue of day 1 updates taking a lot of time in order to install a feature that should already be on the freaking console to begin with, but this is a small price to pay for an otherwise great console.

Brilliant!

Great successor to the original Wii. The Wii U has far superior online capabilities and the game-pad controller is surprisingly comfortable to hold. There's a good range of titles available already and more to come in the future. Definitely worth buy this Christmas. This is the better pack because Nintendoland is a title no Wii U owner should be without.

Great console

5

Fantastic console. Looks well sleek in black though the gloss finish may attract fingerprints. The tablet controller is large and responsive. Nintendoland is great for my 6 year old and our family as a whole and can't wait to try Super Mario at Xmas. Little short of quality titles right now but once the Mariokarts, Zeldas, Metroids and other signature nineties games come out it should provide a lot of fun for years to come. 1080p over supplied HDMI cable is awesome, if long needed, and great that the new controllers are motion plus integrated. The addition of the similar-to-the-xbox360 'Pro' controller is great for 1st person shooters too. With COD, assassins creed, zombii u and aliens games, this is a console that older players can enjoy too. Great that it's backwards compatible with previous Wii (non-U) games and accessories. Only downside is that if, like us, you don't have them already, be prepared to budget a lot more for extra controllers etc. At £32 for a wii u remote (ouch), 4 of them and pro controller plus couple of nunchuks (+steering wheels?) could set you back about £200 or the cost of another Wii U basic package!!

What an innovative console

5

The Wii U is just simply fun. I bought it with Nintendo Land which is packed with games that showcase some of the features of the innovative game-pad that comes with the console. After connecting it to the internet (which worked in the end, but took 30 minutes on the phone to Nintendo to sort) everything else has been plain sailing. I transferred my game save data off my old Wii and everything just works brilliantly. The graphics are stunning, the game play is great. The only gripes are (a) the hassle of connecting it to the internet and (b) initial load times are a little slow (but once games are loaded they are super fast).

Good, but it doesn't deliver everything they promised

3

The Wii U is a good but not great. It has graphics and performance that are as good or better than the PS3 and Xbox, but they are not substantially better. The games console seems to be well build and is very quiet, nothing about the core system jumps out. What does jump out is the game pad (tablet controller) that comes with it. It's like having a tablet PC with joysticks to control your game with and that opens a lot of windows. It's got a big enough screen that you could happily play most games without even turning on the TV which is great, yet small enough that it doesn't feel heavy or awkward to hold. My only complaint about the gamepad is that it rattles like a can of nails. I actually thought mine had screws rattling around inside it until I compared it to a couple other gamepads that did the same thing. My big complaints about the console are down to the operating software. Much of what Nintendo promised never happened. They were going to have an innovative TV system that is basically just a universal remote that doesn't work as well as a real universal remote. They were going to let you morph photo's and draw like you can on the 3DS but that doesn't exist at all on this system. They promised a web browser but because it doesn't use flash most sites don't work. They promised youtube that you let you find the video on the gamepad and then link it to the tv but the youtube is a watered down version that does require the TV to use in any way. There is no such thing as letting your kids find the video while you watch sports and then during a break let your kids show you the video they found. Most of the great things this console promised were never delivered but the games are good and I do think it's going to be Nintendo's best chance at getting into a market for real gamers. Knowing what I know now I would have held out for another year or two and gotten the next PS or Xbox system however I'm not sad that I got it. If you love Nintendo titles and want the gamepad for gaming then get this system and you won't be disappointed. If you are after the "Extra Features" that are meant to turn this from games system into a family entertainment system then, at this point in time, you will be very disappointed. I do remain optimistic that Nintendo will fix the problems and deliver what they promised over the next few months but only time will tell.
