Different but really fun!

The game itself steps away from previous versions with almost every aspect of the games but it still provides a really fun experience. There is no longer 5 buttons side by side, instead there are three buttons side by side which are each split into to separate buttons depending on what note your playing you may need to press one or the other or both. (Pressing both at speed can be rather challenging). Despite the fact that Activision chose not to carry your previous DLC from the old games over, they have essentially given you all future DLC for this game for free through the Guitar hero TV. You can play random songs on GHTV continuously to earn play points which let you choose the GHTV songs you want to play. Of course there is also a selections of songs you can play offline and currently I'd say they trump the RB4 setlist. Although they are now entirely different ways to play and although the new guitar forces you to ditch your old instruments for this game It does mean that each game has its own individuality. So when I'm playing RB4 and I think I feel like playing GH LIve it's not like I'm just playing the same game. Overall I feel that Activision and freestylegames have done an excellent job of the game and hope other people think the same so that they can continue this style of game play.

The controller is much better than it being on the wii. The guitar is a lot easier to play as there is two lots of buttons now rather than just one row. This being, it makes playing a lot more fun and more fluid.

Surprisingly Good

Will have to say I was surprised by this game. Being a long time player of the guitar hero games and mastering them to a high level I thought this was going to be a breeze. I was wrong. The 6 button layout is rather deep allowing complex chords at higher difficulties and the overall game play is fun and adds a new dimension to the genre. I thought i wasn't going to like the realistic visuals approach but this didn't matter in the end as the actual story mode this is used in is really short and can be completed in a few hours. The GHTV mode is where I have had the most fun as playing the random collection of songs was keeping me entertained and has a much larger selection of music which is going to be added to over time. The only problem with this mode is its free-to-play model. Where you need to earn coins to buy plays to play the songs you want otherwise you have to wait for them in rotation. This may sound horrible but its not too bad in the beginning as plays are easy to earn as your low levels increase. But after about level 10 you will have to rely on the coins to be able to get your plays. Overall I enjoyed the game and if they keep adding new music to GHTV to play whilst earning coins to play the songs you want, this model isn't too bad. I would recommend this to anyone looking to play a new guitar hero game, but if your all about playing the same songs over and over to increase your score and go for perfect runs it might not be the title for you.

Great game. Love the reinvention of the new guitar buttons. Does make it a lot more like playing a real guitar. Takes a bit of practice to get used to though. Single player is not that great but the online part of the game where you can see where you stand in the world is great.
