Yes, please, Minister

Classic, still relevant, funny and poignant. Absolutely charming and witty. Time has treated this gem with respect, and while some of the bite of the humour and relevance of the topics has been lost with the passing of times, the jokes and brutal autopsy of the civil servitude are still hilarious.

Real Politics

If you really want to see how the Country is run then the 'Yes Minister' series will give you the inside dope on the every day drama at Westminster, that keeps the populous so securely attended to by our Government. Actually, I joke. If Britain was run the way this hilarious satire depicts, I reckon we would be in a far better position than we currently find ourselves today. Who says that British humour isn't the best in the World.

Yes Minister on DVD

Yes, Minister - The Complete Box Set was produced about 20 years ago, but is still current today. Nothing has changed significantly in the corridors of power and this series should still be mandatory training for both civil servants, new politicians and lay folk wanting to know how the government works. The cast, the script - everything is quite brilliant and still entertains today. It is a must watch item to see how democracy works in practice in the UK.

Yes Minister

Yes, Minister was a brilliant series. I thoroughly enjoy watching it over and over, a true classic. Wish they would make more series like this.

Who's running this show?

A shiny new Minister in Her Majesty's Government, Jim Hacker plunges enthusiastically into the challenge, determined to make real changes. He has an army of civil servants to help him, led by the urbane and ever-solicitous Sir Humphrey Appleby. It doesn't take long for Jim to realise that the civil service likes things the way they are. Ministers come and go while Sir Humphrey and his staff are there for life, steady hands at the wheel, ensuring that nothing really moves. If he's ever going to get past this genteel barrier, Jim is going to have to fight every inch of the way. Sometimes he wins, sometimes he doesn't, and often the true winner is the pragmatic self-interest of the career politician. This entertaining series goes back a long way but it really doesn't matter, it's set in the essentially timeless world of British politics. If only all television comedy were as intelligent, observant and genuinely funny as this!

what a gem, bought for my son who has political ambition (bless him). Looks hilariously dated but that adds to the humour. Not had time to watch all of them yet, but looking forward to it.

Yes, Minister - The Complete Box Set

Take yourself into the inner sanctum of Whitehall and watch the unflappable Sir Humphrey Appleby (played to perfection by Nigel Hawthorne); along with his ever-bumbling sidekick Bernard Woolley (Derek Fowlds) take the minister, then Prime Minister; James Hacker on a ride through pedantic language - bureaucratic red tape - alliances forged and destroyed...all with howls of laughter and well written dramatic script. Whitehall will never be the same after they have been there. Will James Hacker ever be able to enact legislative change? Will Humphrey ever trip up? A brilliantly cast and superbly written sit-com, series that will not disappoint. Political satire at its best.
