Iman Vellani Introduces The MCU’s Newest Hero Ms. Marvel – Interview

“It’s not really the Brown girls from Jersey City who save the world”, says a downbeat Kamala Khan to her friend Bruno in the opening episode of Ms. Marvel.

But Kamala doesn’t know yet just how wrong she is.

Following the story of the spirited teen as she discovers her superpowers, Ms. Marvel shows audiences exactly how Brown girls from Jersey City are indeed saving the world.

Marvel Studios

The introduction of fan-favourite comics character Kamala Khan to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been a long time coming and a debut that has been eagerly awaited – especially by the actor who brings the hero to life on-screen, Iman Vellani.

A Marvel super-fan with infectious energy, it’s previously been said that Vellani is like a real-life Kamala, something that immediately became clear to us within the first moments of meeting the rising star.

For the latest edition of our free digital monthly magazine The Lowdown, Vellani spoke to us about all things bringing Kamala to the MCU, why this representation matters, and how Ms. Marvel is unlike anything the franchise has done before.

Ms. Marvel airs on Disney+ from 8th June.
