Insomniac Announce Spider-Man 2 And Wolverine Games For PlayStation 5

Two massive new Marvel games are making their way exclusively to the PlayStation.

Developer Insomniac Games announced on Thursday (9th September) that the latest game in their Spider-Man series was currently in development, and is expected to arrive on the PS5 in 2023.

The company released a trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which will feature both Miles Morales and Peter Parker, as well as a whole host of famous villains from the franchise.

Most of those are being kept under wraps for now, but the teaser revealed that the pair will be battling against Venom, voiced here by the original Candyman, Tony Todd.

The studio’s follow up to the two widely acclaimed games from 2018 and 2020 didn’t come as a surprise. But their other big announcement yesterday caught many off guard.

Insomniac also revealed that they are in the early development stages of a Wolverine game, a standalone adventure directed by Brian Horton and Cameron Christian, two of the main people behind last year’s Miles Morales game.

In a blog, Ryan Schneider, Head Of Franchise Strategy And Studio Relations at Insomniac Games, said: “So many of the Insomniac team are such huge fans of the character, and one of the key elements that drew us to him is surprisingly not that different from Spider-Man: both heroes feel deeply compelled to defend people who are less able to do so.

“In the vein of our Spider-Man games, our goal here is to not only respect the DNA of what makes the character so popular, but also look for opportunities to make it feel fresh and truly reflect the Insomniac spirit.

Even though Marvel’s Wolverine is very early in development, from what I’ve seen of its emotional narrative and cutting-edge gameplay (see what I did there?), the team is already creating something truly special.”

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to be released in 2023. A release date for Wolverine is yet to be announced.
