It looks like it’s finally happening! After years of rumours a new Tron movie is in the works as Disney breathes new life into the franchise with a new star and director.
It has taken a while for the studio to figure out in which direction they wanted to go with Tron following 2010’s Tron: Legacy, which received a mixed reaction, but now a sequel has been announced.
As reported by Deadline, the new movie will star Jared Leto and be directed by Garth Davis, best known for his critically acclaimed drama Lion, which received six Oscar nominations including Best Picture.
According the the report, insiders say that Davis really pushed for the job having not yet directed a tentpole release.
Rumour is he eventually won over the Disney execs with his vision for the movie, which Leto will also be producing.
The project hasn’t been given the greenlight yet currently still in development, but insiders adding the tapping of Davis as director is certainly a ‘push in the right direction’, meaning it probably won’t be long until it is officially announced.
Little is known about the new film, including plot details and how it will fit into the franchise, but hopefully we will find out soon!
