Marvel’s Secret Invasion: Everything We Know About The MCU Show

Nick Fury is returning to the MCU.

Marvel’s upcoming Secret Invasion series sees Samuel L. Jackson reprise his role as the iconic character. The show is currently filming, but is expected to make its way to our screens very soon – although very little information about what we can expect has been revealed so far.

So, without further ado, here’s everything we currently know about Secret Invasion. We’ll be updating this with more information when we get it.

What’s The Story?

Marvel Studios

To put it simply, this is Marvel doing Invasion Of The Body Snatchers.

Fury is now working with the Skrulls in space, but is brought back to Earth when it’s revealed that the aliens have been slowly infiltrating the human race, and all other aspects of life on the planet.

The story is adapted from a 2008 comic book series of the same name, which followed the Skrulls as they undertook a long-term invasion of Earth – secretly inhabiting the bodies of millions of humans, including several Marvel superheroes, without anybody else realising.

Marvel Studios

Within the MCU, Secret Invasion has been teased for several years; we had our first glimpse in the post-credits sequence of Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019, as it was revealed a Skrull was filling in for Fury on Earth while he was vibing in space.

Meanwhile a throwaway line in No Way Home reveals Fury has only been absent from Earth for a year however, to give some perspective on the MCU’s increasingly complex post-blip timeline.

There was a further tease in WandaVision, and as new hero Ms. Marvel gets her powers through a run in with Skrull technology, expect further tie ins to come.

Who’s In The Secret Invasion Cast?

Marvel Studios

Samuel L. Jackson is, of course, back as Nick Fury. In early 2022, fans in Yorkshire were surprised to see him out and about in Huddersfield, after filming scenes down the road in Leeds (which had been dressed up to look like Russia, because why not).

Also returning to the fold is Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, and Cobie Smulders as former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill. We’ll also have a brief appearance from Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross.

Samuel L. Jackson also revealed in a recent interview that Don Cheadle will be making an appearance, giving us the Nick Fury/War Machine crossover we’re surprised has never happened. Both are MCU mainstays – but Jackson has said this will be the first time the pair have ever worked together.

As for new actors joining the MCU, Kingsley Ben-Adir will be playing the lead villain, while other undisclosed roles will be played by Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, and Carmen Ejogo.

Is There A Secret Invasion Trailer?

The first trailer premiered at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, although it didn’t premiere online until nearly two months later, following Marvel’s D23 presentation.

The trailer reveals that Nick Fury has returned to Earth, after years of ignoring Agent Hill’s calls – and he’s now in the driver’s seat to fight off an invading force, presumably with the help of Mendelsohn’s Talos, who we get a glimpse of here.

Most excitingly, the trailer reveals the character that Olivia Colman is playing is to Nick Fury what M is to James Bond. Perfect casting, no notes.

When can we see it?

At San Diego Comic Con, it was announced the show would premiere in Spring 2023. We’ll update this with the official date when we get it.
